He treats patients of all ages with traumatic, non-traumatic or congenital conditions of the upper extremity and has a special interest in complex elbow reconstruction, treatment of the arthritic hand and microvascular reconstructive surgery.ĭr. Pannunzio joined Reconstructive Hand Surgeons of Indiana to focus on upper extremity care below the shoulder. He published multiple articles and book chapters, spoke at numerous national conferences, and with his partners developed a regional Center of Excellence for upper extremity care. He developed an entirely new vein of research, investigating the potential of genetically modified cells to improve outcomes in peripheral nerve repair. During his tenure at the university, he co-directed the orthopaedic residency and hand fellowship programs, and received the resident's award for teaching excellence in 2005. Pannunzio was recruited to return to the University of Virginia to join the teaching faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He then traveled to San Antonio, TX for a one-year fellowship at The Hand Center of San Antonio in Hand and Microvascular Reconstructive surgery.ĭuring his fellowship year, Dr. Following this, he stayed at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center where he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training in 1999. Within months, the shop switched to a 100% volunteer force with a paid executive director. ![]() In 2019, finding shop sales in decline, the Board reconsidered a proposal by a former employee to restructure the organization. With the help of donors, shoppers, and volunteers at the shop, IOC fulfills its mission by raising money to provide grants to agencies that assist with housing needs in the community. In order to fulfill the mission, IOC obtained a tax-exempt status (501(c)(3)) as a public non-profit, and opened the Joining Hands Benefit Shop at 26358 Carmel Rancho Lane in Carmel in September of that year. The goal was-and remains-to share resources to do a better job collectively than we could do individually in outreach to our people.Ģ010 saw a shift in the work of IOC, and we decided to direct our efforts to Monterey County housing for those experiencing homelessness. 2007 marked the inauguration of an effort to affiliate local faith communities to improve our ability to serve those in need in Monterey County. ![]()
